If the point of a presentation is to change something – the behaviour of your audience, then you need to find ways of making that change happen when you present. The main way of doing this is via:
…The PIE model
This video explains things in brief – the password is PIE.
The key thing consider as you ‘perform’ is how to get to the third level of communication – the emotional or contextual level. Remember, this isn’t to say that you shouldn’t give people the facts they need to act on, but unless you get them emotionally involved there’s no point in giving them those facts as they won’t act on them.
It’s a false choice – and I’m presenting it here just to make a point, not because it’ll ever happen – but if you ever find you can either hit the emotional level of communication or the intellectual one, the former is your target. Your audience can always get the facts for themselves.
